WHSB students achieve two separate prestigious awards in Engineering

We recently celebrated the success of two teams of WHSB students, now in the Upper Sixth, who achieved two separate prestigious awards in Engineering. Allocating their Wednesday Afternoon activities during Lower Sixth, and working for more than 70 hours on Design and Technology projects beyond the classroom, we congratulate these students on their commitment and intellectual curiosity.

The first team: Zain (Team Leader) together with Alex, Oriannne, Isabel, Daniyal, Amam and Mahfuzur, has been awarded the CREST Gold Award. CREST is a nationally recognised scheme for student-led project work in the field of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) and is highly regarded by the top universities and employers in the UK. The team created their own brief to design a reconnaissance drone, inspired by the Mars Rover, featuring a sentry turret which uses automatic colour recognition tools.

The second team: Louis (Team Leader) together with Favour, Eli, Hersh, Abigail and Daniel, has been awarded the Industrial Cadet Gold Award; another nationally recognised programme involving a team working alongside a mentor from multinational aerospace, defence and security engineering specialists, Leonardo. The team created their own brief to design and build a military reconnaissance land-based drone which included an actuating camera. Whilst graduating as Industrial Gold Cadets, the panel also awarded this year's team with the Best Teamwork Award, commenting on the strengths of their collaborative and supportive nature.

Congratulations to both teams, and we would like to thank Mr Wright and his colleagues in the Design & Technology Department for all their support and encouragement for our students.
