Year 12 student, Cadet Sergeant Mathew Pearman (age 17 years), from Westcliff High School for Boys CCF (Combined Cadet Force) has been appointed as the Lord Lieutenant’s Cadet for Combined Cadet Force Cadets in Essex. His role will be to support Her Majesty’s Lord Lieutenant of Essex, Mrs Jennifer Tolhurst. The Lord Lieutenant is Her Majesty the Queen’s personal representative in the county and has various ceremonial roles. Each year, the Lord Lieutenant appoints cadets from the various cadet groups available to young people in Essex, to assist with her duties. Mathew will assume this position as the second WHSB cadet to do so in the past four years, following in the footsteps of former Head Boy, Jonathan Travers.

In addition to his work in School, Mathew passed the 1st Dan black-belt aged 10 and now volunteers teaching younger students, winning multiple tournaments as well.
