Westcliff High School for Boys Athletes are National Champions!
Westcliff High School for Boys recently celebrated a wonderful end to a fantastic year of sport. As finalists in the English Schools’ Athletics Association (ESAA) Track & Field Cup for yet another consecutive year, the School’s athletics squad travelled to Chelmsford’s Melbourne Stadium on Saturday 6 July aiming for the champions title and coveted cup.
On a day of record-breaking results, the Year 7 and 8 Junior Boys enjoyed great success smashing through the previously unbroken barrier of 600 points, with a remarkable score of 611 points to win the ESAA Track and Field Cup and become national champions. The Year 9 and 10 Intermediate Boys were also impressive, only just missing a podium position by one point, coming fourth in the country in a very tight competition.
Tom Morrish, Director of Sport at Westcliff High School for Boys, said:
“We are delighted to celebrate the phenomenal achievements of our Junior and Intermediate Athletics Teams with their superb record-breaking success on Saturday. By putting in a huge amount of effort, both teams have seen their determination rewarded. A big ‘thank you’ also to local company Planet Leasing for their sponsorship of Athletics at Westcliff High School for Boys.”
Headmaster Mike Skelly said:
“It gives me great pleasure to congratulate our fantastic team of pupils and staff on the Athletics Team’s outstanding performance this year. We are delighted to see their commitment and dedication rewarded. Both myself and the entire School Community feel immensely proud of the Junior and Intermediate Boys and their superb achievements.”
